Generative AI Ecommerce: The Battle of AI Models - Volume 1
Generative AI models for e-commerce is no longer a futuristic gimmick. It already feeds your product feeds, visuals, and ads. Tools like Gemini, Flux and specialized models are changing the way brands produce and activate their content.
But faced with the multiplication of technologies, a question comes up again: What e-commerce AI model should you choose?
To answer this question, we are launching a series of analyses: Smart vs. Smarter — Battle of the AI Models. The idea is simple: put different models to the test of real e-commerce use cases, measure their strengths and weaknesses, and see if they live up to the promise of creativity, realism and security.
Volume 1: a simple but essential challenge
For this first test, we chose a basic but crucial task:
👉 Add a realistic background to a studio photo of a model wearing a piece of clothing.
This exercise focuses on several strategic issues:
- Brand safety : keep your face and your figure intact, without distortions.
- Realism : respect the proportions, the lighting, the textures.
- Creativity : offer an inspiring decor, far from the credits.
- E-commerce use cases : deliver a visual that can be directly used in a catalog, an ad, or a landing page.

E-commerce AI models tested
Three models were compared on the same prompt and the same image:
- Gemini 2.0 Flash
- Gemini 2.5 (Nano Banana)
- Flux.1 Kontext Pro
All are capable of transforming a static product visual into enriched content. But their effectiveness varies according to the essential criteria of online commerce.

Gemini Flash Edit
Assets : fast, flexible.
Limits : drifts in the face and pose, alterations in clothing, visible artifacts.
Verdict : ❌ Unreliable in terms of brand safety.
Gemini 2.5 (Nano Banana)
Assets : almost perfect preservation of the face and posture.
Limits : always some parasitic interactions between background and subject.
Verdict : ⚠️ Promising, but not yet 100% sure for massive deployment.

Flux.1 Kontext Pro
Assets : background generated in a clean way, the subject remains intact, logo and patterns respected.
Limits : sometimes made a bit sober, less creative than some competitors.
Verdict : ✅ The most reliable for e-commerce use.
Who comes out winning?
For this first round, Flux.1 Kontext Pro stands out as the safest model. It respects the integrity of the product and the mannequin, without sacrificing visual quality.
But be careful:
- Gemini Flash Multi has shown a real ability to preserve identity.
- Gemini Flash Edit remains useful for rapid tests, despite its weaknesses.
👉 Conclusion: it does not exist No absolute winner. Each model meets a different need.
What it means for brands
In e-commerce, it's all a question of context:
- Catalog photos → need for security and consistency.
- Social ads visuals → importance of speed and variety.
- Inspirational campaigns → room for more creativity.
Betting on a single model means taking the risk of missing out on the best combination. THEGenerative AI e-commerce should be seen as a toolbox, not a one-size-fits-all solution.
The Dataïads approach: applied Product Intelligence
At Dataïads, we are not looking to elect “the best model”. We select, combine and optimize them for each e-commerce use:
- Feed Enrich → enriches your product feeds to maximize visibility and reduce your CPC.
- Smart Creatives → automatically generates visuals and catalog ads from the feed, using the best AI at the right time.
- Smart Landing Pages → transform post-click into a conversion lever with contextualized and fast pages.
It is this logic of Product Intelligence which allows you to activate your product data throughout the funnel, by connecting multimodal AI and business objectives.
